Translation

✧ And ʿAbbās b. Mirdās also said concerning the day of Ḥunayn: The abode at Mijdal, then Mutāliʿ, then Miṭlā Arik, has become desolate, then al-Maṣāniʿ — dwellings of ours, O Juml, when the greater part of our life was easy, and the turn of the abode united the tribe. A beloved one whom the estrangement of departure carried away for separation — is there any past part of life that will return? If you seek the disbelievers without blame, then I am a minister and follower of the Prophet. The best delegation I have known called us to them: Khuzaymah, al-Marrār among them, and Wāsiʿ. And we came with a thousand of Sulaym upon whom was armor of the weaving of David, splendid. We pledge allegiance to him between al-Akhshabayn, and only the hand of God between al-Akhshabayn do we pledge. And we tramped with the rightly guided one through Makkah by force with our swords, while the dust was subdued and rising. ʿAdanī blades, and the horses' backs were covered with hot and flowing blood from the chest, drenching. And on the day of Ḥunayn, when Hawāzin marched against us and the ribs were constricted with the souls, We stood firm with al-Ḍaḥḥāk; neither the clash of the enemies among them nor the battles could startle us. Before the Messenger of God there fluttered above us a banner like a child's whirligig of the cloud, gleaming. On the evening when Ḍaḥḥāk b. Sufyān took refuge with the sword of the Messenger of God, while death crouched, We defend our brother against our brother, and if we saw a place of safety, we would be the nearest kin to follow one another. But the religion of God, the religion of Muḥammad, we are pleased with it; in it are guidance and the sacred laws. By it He established our affair after error, and there is no repeller for an affair God has decreed.
