An Indication of the Account of the Digging of Zamzam
أَمْرُ جُرْهُمٍ وَدَفْنِ زَمْزَمَ [ وُلَاةُ الْبَيْتِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَكَانَ مِنْ حَدِيثِ جُرْهُمٍ، وَدَفْنُهَا زَمْزَمَ، وَخُرُوجُهَا مِنْ مَكَّةَ وَمَنْ وَلِيَ أَمْرَ مَكَّةَ بَعْدَهَا إلَى أَنْ حَفَرَ عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ زَمْزَمَ، مَا حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ زِيَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَكَّائِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إسْحَاقَ الْمُطَّلِبِيُّ، قَالَ: لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ إسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إبْرَاهِيمَ وَلِيَ الْبَيْتَ بَعْدَهُ ابْنُهُ نَابِتُ بْنُ إسْمَاعِيلَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَلِيَهُ، ثُمَّ وَلِيَ الْبَيْتَ بَعْدَهُ مُضَاضُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْجُرْهُمِيُّ.
Translation
✧ The affair of Jurhum and the burial of Zamzam [and the custodians of the House]. Ibn Hishām said: Part of the account of Jurhum, their burying of Zamzam, their departure from Makkah, and those who had charge of Makkah after them until ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib dug Zamzam, is what Ziyād b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Bakkāʾī related to us from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq al-Muṭṭalibī. He said: When Ismāʿīl b. Ibrāhīm died, his son Nābit b. Ismāʿīl took charge of the House after him for as long as God willed that he should have charge of it. Then after him Muḍāḍ b. ʿAmr al-Jurhumī took charge of the House.
