Translation
✧ [The genealogy of Juʿthumah] Ibn Hishām said: It is also said Juʿthumah al-Asad and Juʿthumah al-Azd. He is Juʿthumah b. Yashkur b. Mubashshir b. Ṣaʿb b. Duhmān b. Naṣr b. Zahrān b. al-Ḥārith b. Kaʿb b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Mālik b. Naṣr b. al-Asad b. al-Ghawth. It is also said: Juʿthumah b. Yashkur b. Mubashshir b. Ṣaʿb b. Naṣr b. Zahrān b. al-Asad b. al-Ghawth. They were named al-Jadarah because ʿĀmir b. ʿAmr b. Juʿthumah married the daughter of al-Ḥārith b. Muḍāḍ al-Jurhumī, and Jurhum were the custodians of the Kaʿbah. He built a wall (jidār) for the Kaʿbah, so ʿĀmir was called al-Jādir because of that, and thus his descendants were called al-Jadarah. Ibn Isḥāq said: Concerning Saʿd b. Sayal the poet said: We see not among the people a single person Of those we know like Saʿd b. Sayal, A horseman, firm-gripped, in whom there is hardship, And when he faces the adversary he dismounts, A horseman who lures on the horses As the free falcon lures the sandgrouse. Ibn Hishām said: His saying "as the free falcon lures" is from one of the people of knowledge of poetry. [The rest of the children of Kilāb] Ibn Hishām said: And Nuʿm bt. Kilāb, and she is the mother of Asʿad and Suʿayd, the two sons of Sahm b. ʿAmr b. Huṣayṣ b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy, and her mother is Fāṭimah bt. Saʿd b. Sayal.
