The Messenger's sermon to the people, in which he mentions the harm done to him by a group regarding his honor

Translation

✧ [The Messenger's consultation of ʿAlī and Usāmah] (She said:) He called ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (may God be pleased with him) and Usāmah b. Zayd, and consulted them. As for Usāmah, he praised me well and said so; then he said: "O Messenger of God, they are your family, and we know nothing of them but good, and this is falsehood and vanity." As for ʿAlī, he said: "O Messenger of God, women are many, and you are able to take a replacement. Ask the slave girl, for she will tell you the truth." The Messenger of God ﷺ called Barīrah to ask her. (She said:) ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib rose to her and struck her with a severe beating, saying: "Tell the truth to the Messenger of God ﷺ." (She said:) She would say: "By God, I know nothing but good, and I have never found fault with ʿĀʾishah in anything, except that I used to knead my dough and would tell her to watch it, but she would fall asleep over it, and a sheep would come and eat it."
