The Messenger's glad tidings to the Muslims of the expedition against Quraysh
Translation
✧ [Poem of Musāfiʿ in rebuking the horsemen who were with ʿAmr on the day of the Trench] And Musāfiʿ also said, rebuking the horsemen of ʿAmr who were with him, but they fled from him and abandoned him: ʿAmr b. ʿAbd and the steeds he leads—some horses are led for him and some are shod. His horsemen fled, and his people left a mighty pillar that had been among them, a first wonder. And if it was a wonder, I have seen it: whenever ʿAmr descends upon me, he alights. Do not perish, for I have been afflicted by his slaying, and before death I met a matter that weighs heavy. And Hubayrah the despoiled turned his back in flight at the time of battle, for fear that they would be killed. And Ḍirār, as if courage were present in him, turned in flight as the base unarmed one turns. Ibn Hishām said: Some of the people of knowledge of poetry deny these verses are his. And his saying: "ʿAmran yanzilu" is from other than Ibn Isḥāq.
