And this verse is in a poem of his. And Hawbar: of the Banū al-Ḥārith b. Kaʿb; he meant Yazīd b. Hawbar. And al-naḥb (also) means the vow. Jarīr b. al-Khaṭafī said: Bi-Ṭikhfata jāladnā al-mulūka wa-khaylunā / ʿashiyyata Bisṭāmin jarayna ʿalā naḥbi. He says: upon a vow it had made to kill him, and it killed him. And this verse is in a poem of his. And Bisṭām: Bisṭām b. Qays b. Masʿūd al-Shaybānī, and he is the son of Dhū al-Jaddayn. Abū ʿUbaydah related to me that he was the horseman of Rabīʿah b. Nizār. And Ṭikhfah: a place on the road to al-Baṣrah. And al-naḥb (also) means the wagering, which is the betting. And al-naḥb (also) means the need and the aspiration; you say: Mā lī ʿindahum naḥb, 'I have no need with them.' Mālik b. Nuwayrah al-Yarbūʿī said: Wa-mā lī naḥbun ʿindahum ghayra annanī / talammastu mā tabghī min al-shuduni al-shujzī. And Nahār b. Tawsiʿah, one of the Banū Taym al-Lāt b. Thaʿlabah b. ʿUkābah b.
