Ḥassān's poetry on the flight of ʿIkrima
Translation
✧ [Ḥassān's poetry on ʿIkrimah's flight] Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿIkrimah b. Abī Jahl threw down his lance that day while he was fleeing from ʿAmr; and Ḥassān b. Thābit said about that: He fled and threw down to us his lance — perhaps you, ʿIkrim, did not do [what you should have] And you turned away, running like the ostrich, never swerving from the road; And you did not meet your back as one at ease, as if the back of your neck were the back of a hyena cub. Ibn Hishām said: al-furʿul is the young of hyenas, and these verses are among verses of his.
