Translation

✧ We return to the account of the genealogy [the genealogy of Khuzāʿah]. Ibn Isḥāq said: And Khuzāʿah say: We are the Banū ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir, from Yemen. Ibn Hishām said: And Khuzāʿah say: We are the Banū ʿAmr b. Rabīʿah b. Ḥārithah b. ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir b. Ḥārithah b. Imriʾ al-Qays b. Thaʿlabah b. Māzin b. al-Asd b. al-Ghawth; and Khindif is their mother, according to what Abū ʿUbaydah and other people of knowledge related to me. And it is said that Khuzāʿah are the Banū Ḥārithah b. ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir. They were only called Khuzāʿah because they broke away (takhazzaʿū) from the descendants of ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir when they came from Yemen, intending Syria, and they halted at Marr al-Ẓahrān and stayed there. ʿAwn b. Ayyūb al-Anṣārī, one of the Banū ʿAmr b. Sawād b. Ghanm b. Kaʿb b. Salamah of the Khazraj, said in Islam: When we descended into the hollow of Murr, Khuzāʿah broke away from us in troops of horses. They protected every valley of Tihāmah and fortified themselves with solid spearheads and sharp, cutting swords. These two verses are from a qaṣīdah of his. And Abū al-Muṭahhar Ismāʿīl b. Rāfiʿ al-Anṣārī, one of the Banū Ḥārithah b. al-Ḥārith b. al-Khazraj b. ʿAmr b. Mālik b. al-Aws, said: When we descended into the hollow of Makkah, Khuzāʿah praised the abode of the eater who bears burdens. They halted in companies and dispersed groups among every tribe between Najd and the coast. They expelled Jurhum from the hollow of Makkah and took possession of the might of a Khuzāʿī with strong shoulders. Ibn Hishām said: These verses are from a qaṣīdah of his, and I, if God wills, will mention their expulsion of Jurhum in its proper place.
