Sirat Ibn Hisham 1094

The Messenger's going out to the Banū al-Naḍīr seeking their help with the bloodwit for the slain of the Banū ʿĀmir and their intention to betray him

Translation

✧ [The Messenger’s siege of them and the cutting down of their palm trees, Banū al-Naḍīr] Ibn Isḥāq said: They fortified themselves against him in the strongholds. The Messenger of God ﷺ commanded that the palm trees be cut down and set fire among them. They called out to him: “O Muḥammad, you used to forbid corruption and blame it upon whoever did it. What is the matter with cutting down the palm trees and burning them?”
