Account of the poetry recited on the day of Uḥud
[ رَجَزُ أَبِي زَعْنَةَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَقَالَ أَبُو زَعْنَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، أَخُو بَنِي جُشَمِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ: أَنَا أَبُو زَعْنَةَ يَعْدُو بِي الهُزَمْ لَمْ تُمْنَعْ الْمَخْزَاةُ إلَّا بِالْأَلَمْ يَحْمِي الذِّمَارَ خَزْرَجِيٌّ مِنْ جُشَمْ
Translation
✧ [The rajaz of Abū Zaʿnah on the day of Uḥud] Ibn Isḥāq said: Abū Zaʿnah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr b. ʿUtbah, brother of the Banū Jusham b. al-Khazraj, said on the day of Uḥud: I am Abū Zaʿnah, driven on by the crushing defeat; The shame was not prevented except with pain; A Khazrajī of Jusham protects the sanctities.
