Sirat Ibn Hisham 10
The origin of the Arabs
Translation
✧ [The children of Maʿadd] Ibn Isḥāq said: Maʿadd b. ʿAdnān begot four persons: Nizār b. Maʿadd, Quḍāʿah b. Maʿadd—Quḍāʿah was the firstborn of Maʿadd, by whom he was given the kunyah, as they claim—Qunuṣ b. Maʿadd, and Iyād b. Maʿadd. As for Quḍāʿah, they went southwards to Ḥimyar b. Sabaʾ—the name of Sabaʾ was ʿAbd Shams; he was only called Sabaʾ because he was the first to take captives among the Arabs—son of Yashjub b. Yaʿrub b. Qaḥṭān.
