✧ I was sitting with Abu al-Darda' in the mosque of Damascus when a man came to him and said, 'O Abu al-Darda', I have come to you from the City of the Messenger ﷺ concerning a hadith which I was told you narrate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Abu al-Darda' said, 'You have not come for any need, nor for trade; you have come only for this hadith?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever travels a path seeking knowledge therein, Allah will make him travel a path from the paths of Paradise. The angels lower their wings in approval for the seeker of knowledge. Indeed the scholar is asked forgiveness for by whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on earth, and the fish in the water. The superiority of the scholar over the worshipper is like the superiority of the moon on the night of the full moon over all the other stars. Indeed the scholars are the heirs of the prophets. The prophets did not leave behind a dinar or a dirham; they left behind knowledge. So whoever takes it has taken an abundant share."'
