أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ بِبَيْرُوتَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ الدَّارِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ يَعْمَرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَّامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أَسْمَاءَ الرَّحَبِيُّ أَنَّ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ
كُنْتُ قَائِمًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذْ جَاءَ حَبْرٌ مِنْ أَحْبَارِ الْيَهُودِ فَقَالَ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ قَالَ فَدَفَعْتُهُ دَفْعَةً كَادَ يُصْرَعُ مِنْهَا فَقَالَ لِمَ تَدْفَعُنِي؟ فَقُلْتُ أَلَا تَقُولُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ إِنَّمَا أَدْعُوهُ بِاسْمِهِ الَّذِي سَمَّاهُ بِهِ أَهْلُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ اسْمِي مُحَمَّدٌ الَّذِي سَمَّانِي بِهِ أَهْلِي» فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ جِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ «يَنْفَعُكَ شَيْءٌ إِنْ أَخْبَرْتُكَ» قَالَ أَسْمَعُ مَا تُحَدِّثُ فَنَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بِعُودٍ مَعَهُ وَقَالَ «سَلْ» فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الْأَرْضُ غَيْرَ الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ «هُمْ فِي الظُّلْمَةِ دُونَ الْجِسْرِ» قَالَ فَمَنْ أَوَّلُ النَّاسِ إِجَازَةً؟ فَقَالَ «فُقَرَاءُ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ» فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ فَمَا تُحْفَتُهُمْ حِينَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ؟ قَالَ «زَائِدَةُ كَبِدِ النُّونِ» قَالَ مَا غَدَاؤُهُمْ عَلَى إِثْرِهَا؟ قَالَ «يُنْحَرُ لَهُمْ ثَوْرُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا» قَالَ فَمَا شَرَابُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ «مِنْ عَيْنٍ فِيهَا تُسَمَّى سَلْسَبِيلًا» قَالَ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ وَجِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ لَا يَعْلَمُهُ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ قَالَ «يَنْفَعُكَ إِنْ حَدَّثْتُكَ؟ » فَقَالَ أَسْمَعُ بِأُذُنِي جِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنِ الْوَلَدِ فَقَالَ «مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ أَبْيَضُ وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ أَصْفَرُ فَإِذَا اجْتَمَعَا فَعَلَا مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ مَنِيَّ الْمَرْأَةِ أَذْكَرَا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ وَإِذَا عَلَا مَنِيُّ الْمَرْأَةِ مَنِيَّ الرَّجُلِ آنَثَا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ» فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ لَقَدْ صَدَقْتَ وَإِنَّكَ لِنَبِيٌّ وَانْصَرَفَ فَذَهَبَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ «لَقَدْ سَأَلَنِي هَذَا عَنِ الَّذِي سَأَلَنِي وَمَالِي عِلْمٌ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْهُ حَتَّى أَتَانِيَ اللَّهُ بِهِ»

✧ I was standing near the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a rabbi from the rabbis of the Jews came and said: Peace be upon you, O Muhammad. He said: I pushed him with a shove that nearly made him fall. He said: Why do you push me? I said: Why don't you say, O Messenger of Allah? The Jew said: I call him by the name his family gave him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "My name is Muhammad, which my family gave me." The Jew said: I have come to ask you. The Messenger of Allah said: "Will it benefit you if I inform you?" He said: I will listen to what you say. So the Messenger of Allah tapped with a stick he had and said: "Ask." The Jew said: Where will the people be on the day when the earth is changed to another earth and the heavens? The Messenger of Allah said: "They will be in darkness, before the bridge." He said: Who will be the first of the people to cross? He said: "The poor of the emigrants." The Jew said: What will be their gift when they enter Paradise? He said: "The extra lobe of the whale's liver." He said: What will be their meal after it? He said: "The bull of Paradise, which used to eat from its edges, will be slaughtered for them." He said: What will be their drink with it? He said: "From a spring in it called Salsabil." He said: You have spoken the truth. He said: And I have come to ask you about something that no one on earth knows except a prophet. He said: "Will it benefit you if I tell you?" He said: I will listen with my ear. I have come to ask you about the child. He said: "The fluid of the man is white and the fluid of the woman is yellow; when they meet, if the man's fluid prevails over the woman's, it will be male by Allah's permission, and if the woman's fluid prevails over the man's, it will be female by Allah's permission." The Jew said: Indeed you have spoken the truth, and you are a prophet. Then he left and went away. The Messenger of Allah said: "He asked me about what he asked, and I had no knowledge of it until Allah brought it to me."
