أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّامِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْمَقَابِرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

«كَانَ شَبَابٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُسَمَّوْنَ الْقُرَّاءَ يَكُونُونَ فِي نَاحِيَةٍ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ يَحْسَبُ أَهْلُوهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَيُحْسَبُ أَهْلُ الْمَسْجِدِ أَنَّهُمْ فِي أَهْلِيهِمْ فَيُصَلُّونَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ حَتَّى إِذَا تَقَارَبَ الصُّبْحُ احْتَطَبُوا الْحَطَبَ وَاسْتَعْذَبُوا مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَوَضَعُوهُ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ حُجَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَبَعَثَهُمْ جَمِيعًا إِلَى بِئْرِ مَعُونَةَ فَاسْتُشْهِدُوا فَدَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى قَتَلَتِهِمْ أَيَّامًا»

✧ There were young men from the Helpers called the reciters who would be in a corner of Madinah. Their families would think they were in the mosque, and the people of the mosque would think they were with their families. They would pray at night until near dawn, then they would gather firewood and draw water and place it at the doors of the rooms of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He sent them all to the well of Ma'unah, and they were martyred, so the Prophet ﷺ supplicated against their killers for some days.
