✧ I was riding behind Abu Talha on the day of Khaybar, and my foot was touching the foot of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We came to Khaybar when they had come out with their spades, axes, and baskets, and they said, 'Muhammad and the army!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Allah is greater! Khaybar is ruined! When we descend upon the courtyard of a people, evil is the morning of those who were warned.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fought them and defeated them. When the spoils were divided, it was said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that a beautiful slave girl had fallen to the share of Dihya al-Kalbi. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ bought her for seven heads of cattle, then gave her to Umm Sulaym to prepare her. Umm Sulaym used to go on expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He called for leather mats, and they were brought, and he spread the mats, and dates and ghee were brought, and he made them a generous portion of hais. The people ate until they were full. The people said, 'Did he marry her or take her as a mother of his child?' They said, 'If he veils her, she is his wife, and if he does not veil her, she is a mother of his child.' When she wanted to ride, he veiled her until she sat on the rear of the camel behind him, then she rode. When they approached Madinah, he hastened, and the people hastened, and the women looked out. His riding camel stumbled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he fell, and Safiyya fell. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and veiled her. The women said, 'May Allah distance the Jewess!' and they gloated over her. Thabit said, 'I said to Anas, "O Abu Hamza, did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fall from his riding camel?" He said, "Yes, by Allah, he fell from his riding camel, O Abu Muhammad."'
