✧ The cavalry of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or the messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, came and took my paternal aunt and some people. When they brought them to the Prophet ﷺ and lined them up before him, she said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the visitor has gone far away, and the offspring have been cut off. I am an old woman, of no use for service, so show favor to me, may Allah show favor to you.' He ﷺ said, 'And who is your visitor?' She said, ''Adi b. Hatim.' He said, 'The one who fled from Allah and His Messenger.' She said, 'So show favor to me.' When he returned—and a man beside him, whom we think was 'Ali—said, 'Ask him for a mount.' She said, 'So I asked him, and he ordered one for her.' She said, 'Then I came to him and said, "You have done a deed your father would never have done. Come to him, whether desiring or fearing, for so-and-so came to him and obtained something from him, and so-and-so came to him and obtained something from him." So I came to him, and there was with him a woman and children—or a child—mentioned as being near the Prophet ﷺ, and I knew that he was not a king like Chosroes or Caesar. He said to me, "O 'Adi b. Hatim, what makes you flee from saying 'There is no god but Allah'? Is there any god but Allah? What makes you flee from saying 'Allah is greater'? Is there anything greater than Allah?" He said, 'So I embraced Islam, and I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ bright with joy, and he said, "Those upon whom is anger are the Jews, and those who go astray are the Christians."'
