✧ Abu Talhah had a son whose kunyah was Abu Umayr. The Prophet ﷺ used to say: "O Abu Umayr, what happened to the little bird?" The boy fell ill while Abu Talhah was away in one of his gardens, and the child died. Umm Sulaym washed him, shrouded him, embalmed him, and covered him with a cloth. She said: "Let no one tell Abu Talhah until I am the one who tells him." Abu Talhah came home tired and fasting. She perfumed herself for him and adorned herself, and brought his dinner. He said: "What did Abu Umayr do?" She said: "He has eaten and is settled." He ate dinner and had intercourse with her as a man does with his wife. Then she said: "O Abu Talhah, what do you think of a household that lent another household a loan, and the owners asked for it back? Should they return it or keep it?" He said: "They should return it." She said: "Then seek reward for Abu Umayr." He became angry and went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what Umm Sulaym had said. The Prophet ﷺ said: "May Allah bless you both in the remainder of your night." She became pregnant with Abdullah b. Abu Talhah. When she gave birth, and it was the seventh day, Umm Sulaym said to me: "O Anas, take this child and this basket, in which there are some pressed dates, to the Prophet ﷺ so that he may be the one to perform tahnik on him and name him." I brought him to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ stretched out his legs, laid the child in his lap, took a date and chewed it, then put some of it into the child's mouth. The child began to move his tongue. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The Ansar refuse anything but love of dates."
