✧ Abu Talhah proposed to Umm Sulaym. She said to him: "Someone like you, O Abu Talhah, is not rejected, but I am a Muslim woman and you are a disbelieving man. It is not lawful for me to marry you. If you become Muslim, that will be my dowry; I ask you for nothing else." So he became Muslim, and she became his wife, and he consummated the marriage with her. She became pregnant and gave birth to a handsome boy. Abu Talhah loved him intensely. The boy lived until he began to move, then he fell ill, and Abu Talhah grieved over him with great sorrow until he became weak. Abu Talhah used to go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the morning and return in the evening. He returned one evening and the boy had died. Umm Sulaym went to him, perfumed him, cleaned him, and placed him in our private room. Abu Talhah came and said: "How is my little son this evening?" She said: "He is fine; he has never been calmer since he fell ill than tonight." He praised Allah and was pleased. She brought his dinner, and he ate. Then she touched some perfume and made herself available to him until he had intercourse with her. After he had eaten and been with his wife, she said: "O Abu Talhah, what do you think if a neighbor of yours lent you a loan, and you enjoyed it, and then he wanted to take it back from you? Would you return it to him?" He said: "Yes, by Allah, I would return it to him." She said: "May your soul be at ease with it?" He said: "May my soul be at ease with it." She said: "Allah lent you your little son and let you enjoy him as long as He willed, then He took him back to Himself. So be patient and seek reward." Abu Talhah said: "We belong to Allah and to Him we return," and he was patient. In the morning he went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him what Umm Sulaym had done. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "May Allah bless you both in your night." She became pregnant from that intercourse and grew heavy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abu Talhah: "When Umm Sulaym gives birth, bring me her child." Abu Talhah carried him in a piece of cloth and brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ chewed a date and put some of it into the child's mouth. The child began to move his tongue. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abu Talhah: "The Ansar love dates." He performed tahnik on him, prayed for him, and named him Abdullah.
