✧ Severe hardship befell me. I met Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ and asked him to recite a verse from the Book of Allah to me. He entered his house and recited it to me. Then I walked a short distance and fell on my face from hunger. Suddenly the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing over my head, and he said, 'O Abu Hurayrah.' I said, 'At your service, O Messenger of Allah.' He took me by the hand and helped me stand, and he recognized what was wrong with me. He went to his mount and ordered a large bowl of milk for me, and I drank. Then he said, 'Drink again, O Abu Hurayrah.' I drank again until my stomach became full and like a cup. He said: I then saw Umar and mentioned what had happened to me, and I said to him, 'Who was more deserving of it than you, O Umar? By Allah, I asked you to recite the verse, and I can recite it better than you.' Umar said, 'By Allah, if I had let you in [to my house], that would be more beloved to me than having red camels.'
