أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ شُجَاعٍ السَّكُونِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَسُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ وَأَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُضْطَجِعًا فِي بَيْتِهِ كَاشِفًا عَنْ فَخِذَيْهِ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى تِلْكَ الْحَالِ فَتَحَدَّثَ ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى تِلْكَ الْحَالِ فَتَحَدَّثَ ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عُثْمَانُ فَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَسَوَّى ثِيَابَهُ فَدَخَلَ فَتَحَدَّثَ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ دَخَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَلَمْ تَهَشَّ لَهُ وَلَمْ تُبَالِ بِهِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ عُمَرُ فَلَمْ تَهَشَّ لَهُ وَلَمْ تُبَالِ بِهِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ عُثْمَانُ فَجَلَسْتَ فَسَوَّيْتَ ثِيَابَكَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَلَا أَسْتَحِي مِنْ رَجُلٍ تَسْتَحِي مِنْهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was lying in his house with his thighs uncovered. Abu Bakr asked permission, and he gave him permission while he was in that state, and he spoke. Then 'Umar asked permission, and he gave him permission while he was in that state, and he spoke. Then 'Uthman asked permission, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat up and arranged his clothes, and he entered and spoke. When he left, 'A'ishah said: 'O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr entered and you did not stir for him nor mind him; then 'Umar entered and you did not stir for him nor mind him; then 'Uthman entered and you sat up and arranged your clothes.' The Prophet ﷺ said: "Should I not feel shy before a man before whom the angels feel shy?"
