✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became gravely ill, Bilal came to tell him it was time for prayer. He said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man; whenever he stands in your place, he will not make the people hear [due to weeping]. If only you would order 'Umar." He said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." I said to Hafsah, "Tell him." She said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man; whenever he stands in your place, he will not make the people hear." He said, "You are indeed like the women around Yusuf. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." When he entered the prayer, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ found some relief, so he stood up, supported between two men, with his feet dragging on the ground, until he entered the mosque. When Abu Bakr heard his sound, he began to step back, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured to him, "Stay as you are." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down to the left of Abu Bakr. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with the people sitting, while Abu Bakr stood, following the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the people followed the prayer of Abu Bakr.
