أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
لَمَّا اجْتَمَعُوا لِغُسْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ اخْتَلَفُوا بَيْنَهُمْ فَقَالُوا وَاللَّهِ مَا نَدْرِي أَنُجَرِّدُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَمَا نُجَرِّدُ مَوْتَانَا أَوْ نُغَسِّلُهُ وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابُهُ؟ قَالَتْ فَأَرْسَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ النَّوْمَ حَتَّى إِنَّ مِنْهُمْ مِنْ رَجُلٍ إِلَّا ذَقْنُهُ فِي صَدْرِهِ ثُمَّ نَادَى مُنَادٍ مِنْ جَانِبِ الْبَيْتِ مَا يَدْرُونَ مَا هُوَ أَنِ اغْسِلُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصُهُ قَالَ فَوَثَبُوا إِلَيْهِ وَثْبَةَ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ فَغَسَّلُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصُهُ يَصُبُّونَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ وَيُدَلِّكُونَهُ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الْقَمِيصِ وَكَانَ الَّذِي أَجْلَسَهُ فِي حِجْرِهِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَسْنَدَهُ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ قَالَتْ «فَمَا رُئِيَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ شَيْءٌ مِمَّا يُرَى مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ»

✧ When they gathered to wash the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they differed among themselves. They said, "By Allah, we do not know whether to strip the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as we strip our dead, or to wash him with his clothes on." She said, "Allah sent sleep upon them until every man's chin was on his chest. Then a caller called from the side of the house—they did not know what it was—'Wash the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his shirt on.'" He said, "They sprang to him like one man and washed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his shirt on, pouring water over him and rubbing him from behind the shirt. The one who sat him in his lap was Ali b. Abi Talib, leaning him against his chest." She said, "Nothing was seen of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of what is seen of a dead person."
