✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ alighted at Marr al-Zahran at the time he made peace with Quraysh, it reached the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that Quraysh were saying, "The companions of Muhammad ﷺ are only pledging allegiance out of weakness and exhaustion." The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ said, "O Prophet of Allah, if we slaughtered some of our riding camels and ate their meat and fat and sipped their broth, we would go to them tomorrow with strength." He said, "No, but bring me what is left over from your provisions." So they spread leather mats, then poured upon them what was left over from their provisions. The Prophet ﷺ invoked blessing for them, and they ate until they were completely full. Then they poured back what was left of their provisions into their bags. Then they went to the people, and the Prophet ﷺ said to them, "Let them not see any sign of weakness in you." So the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions uncovered their right arms and jogged in three circuits and walked in four, while the polytheists were in the Hijr and at Dar al-Nadwa. When the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ were hidden from them between the Yamani and Black corners, they walked. Then they appeared before them, and Quraysh said, "By Allah, they are like gazelles." Thus it became a practice.
