✧ During the campaign of Tabuk, the people were struck by hunger. They said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, if only you would permit us to slaughter our water-carrying camels and eat them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "Do so." ʿUmar, ؓ, came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, if they do that, the riding camels will become few, but call them to bring the surplus of their provisions, then invoke blessing upon it; perhaps Allah will place (blessing) in that." He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a leather mat, and I spread it out. Then he called them to bring the surplus of their provisions. He said: One man came with a handful of millet, another with a handful of dates, another with a piece of bread, until a little of that gathered on the mat. He said: He ﷺ invoked blessing upon it, then said, "Take into your vessels." So they took into their vessels until they left no vessel in the army but filled it. They ate until they were full, and some remained. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah. No servant meets Allah with these two, not doubting, but he will be veiled from Paradise."
