أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

«إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ قَبْلِي كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ بَنَى بُنْيَانًا أَحْسَنَهُ وَأَجْمَلَهُ وَأَكْمَلَهُ فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يُطِيفُونَ بِهِ فَيَقُولُونَ مَا رَأَيْنَا أَحْسَنَ مِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا مَوْضِعَ ذِي اللَّبِنَةِ» قَالَ «فَكُنْتُ أَنَا تِلْكَ اللَّبِنَةَ»

✧ "Indeed, my likeness and the likeness of the prophets before me is that of a man who built a structure, made it excellent, beautiful, and complete. People began to circle around it, saying, 'We have not seen anything more beautiful than this except the place of that brick.'" He said: "I was that brick."
