✧ ‘Umar b. al-Khaṭṭāb entered upon the Prophet ﷺ while he was on a mat that had left marks on his side. He said, “O Messenger of Allah, if only you would take a bed softer than this?” He said, “O ‘Umar, what have I to do with the world, and what has the world to do with me? By the One in whose hand is my soul, my likeness and the likeness of the world is only that of a rider who travels on a hot day and takes shade under a tree for an hour of the day, then moves on and leaves it.”
