أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ سُرَيْجٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنَ كَيْسَانَ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِأَبِي طَالِبٍ حِينَ حَضَرَهُ الْمَوْتُ «قُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ أَشْفَعْ لَكَ بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» قَالَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي لَوْلَا أَنْ تُعَيِّرَنِيَ قُرَيْشٌ لَأَقْرَرْتُ عَيْنَيْكَ بِهَا فَنَزَلَتْ {إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ}

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abū Ṭālib when death was present with him: Say: There is no god but Allah, and I will intercede for you with it on the Day of Resurrection. He said: O son of my brother, were it not that Quraysh would reproach me, I would have made your eyes cool with it. Then it was revealed: {Indeed, you do not guide whom you love}.
