✧ She brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a son of hers who had not eaten food, and she had treated him with 'udhra (a throat ailment). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Why do you press your children's throats with this treatment? Use this Indian wood—meaning costus—for it contains seven cures, including pleurisy.'

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Shuʿayb b. Abī Ḥamzah narrated it from al-Zuhrī from Umm Qays as a mursal report (mursal). Ibn ʿUyaynah, Ibn Jurayj, Maʿmar, Ziyād b. Saʿd and Yūnus b. Yazīd contradicted him; they narrated it from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah from Umm Qays, and this is more sound (aṣaḥḥ). In the report of Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbaydullāh, it says that Umm Qays came to the Prophet ﷺ, so it would be mursal, and the connected (muttaṣil) version is more sound.
