✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "O Abu Dharr, how will you act when people become so hungry that you cannot get up from your bed to go to your mosque?" I said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "Keep yourself chaste." Then he said: "How will you act when people die so much that a house is worth a servant?" I said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "Be patient." Then he said: "How will you act when people fight each other so much that the stone of oil is drowned?" I said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "Go to the one you are with." I said: "What do you think if it comes upon me?" He said: "Enter your house." I said: "What do you think if it comes upon me?" He said: "If you fear that the flash of the sword will dazzle you, then throw a part of your cloak over your face; he will bear your sin and his sin." I said: "Should I not carry a weapon?" He said: "Then you would share with him."

machine translationAbū ʿImrān al-Jawnī transmits it, and there is disagreement about him. Mubārak b. Faḍālah narrated it from Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī, from Abū Tamīmah al-Hujaymī, from Abū Dharr. Shuʿbah, Ḥammād b. Zayd, Muḥammad b. Thābit al-ʿAbdī and Marḥūm al-ʿAṭṭār contradicted him, and narrated it from Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī, from ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ṣāmit, from Abū Dharr, and this is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version.
