✧ Sitting on the road

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ عَنْ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ

«إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْجُلُوسَ فِي الطُّرُقَاتِ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا لَنَا مِنْ مَجْلِسِنَا بُدٌّ نَتَحَدَّثُ فِيهَا قَالَ «فَإِذَا أَبَيْتُمْ إِلَّا الْمَجْلِسَ فَأَعْطُوا الطَّرِيقَ حَقَّهُ» قَالُوا مَا حَقُّ الطَّرِيقِ؟ قَالَ «غَضُّ الْبَصَرِ وَكُفُّ الْأَذَى وَرَدُّ السَّلَامِ وَالْأَمْرُ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَالنَّهْيُ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ»

✧ Beware of sitting in the roadways." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have no alternative to our gatherings; we talk in them." He said, "If you insist on sitting, then give the road its right." They said, "What is the right of the road?" He said, "Lowering the gaze, refraining from harm, returning the greeting, enjoining good, and forbidding evil."
