✧ I entered the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found an old man with a yellowish head and shining front teeth, accompanied by a handsome young man with dark wide eyes. The old man said, “O Yamami, come. Do not ever say to a man, ‘May Allah not forgive you’ or ‘By Allah, Allah will never admit you to Paradise.’” I said, “Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you?” He said, “I am Abu Hurayrah.” I said, “This is a word one of us says to some of his family or to his servant when he is angry with her.” He said, “Do not say it. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: There were two men among the Children of Israel who were brothers. One of them was diligent in worship, and the other was a sinner. The diligent one saw the sinner committing a sin and said to him, ‘Refrain.’ He replied, ‘Leave me with my Lord.’ He repeated that to him, and he kept saying, ‘Leave me with my Lord,’ until one day he found him committing a sin, and he regarded it as grave. He said, ‘Woe to you, refrain.’ He said, ‘Leave me with my Lord. Have you been sent as a watcher over me?’ He said, ‘By Allah, Allah will never forgive you’ or ‘Allah will never admit you to Paradise.’ Then an angel was sent to them, and he took their souls, and they gathered before Him, Mighty and Majestic. Our Lord said to the diligent worshipper, ‘Did you have knowledge? Or were you capable over what is in My hand? Or do you withhold My mercy from My servant? Go to Paradise,’ meaning the sinner. And He said to the other, ‘Take him to the Fire.’” By the One in Whose hand is my soul, he spoke a word that destroyed his worldly life and his hereafter.
