كَانَتْ لَهُمْ أَلْقَابٌ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَجُلًا بِلَقَبِهِ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ يَكْرَهُهُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ {وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ بِئْسَ الِاسْمُ الْفُسُوقُ بَعْدَ الْإِيمَانِ} قَالَ وَكَانَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ يَتَصَدَّقُونَ وَيُعْطُونَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ حَتَّى أَصَابَتْهُمْ سَنَةٌ فَأَمْسَكُوا فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ {وَأَنْفِقُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ وَأَحْسِنُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ}

✧ "They had titles in the era of ignorance, so the messenger of Allah called a man by his title. It was said, 'O messenger of Allah, he dislikes being called by that title.' So Allah revealed, 'And do not insult one another by nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith.'" "He (the Prophet) said, 'The Ansar used to give in charity and provide whatever Allah willed, until difficulties befell them. So they refrained from doing so. Then Allah revealed, 'And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.'"
