أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ صُرَدٍ قَالَ

اسْتَبَّ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ جُلُوسٌ وَأَحَدُهُمَا يَسُبُّ صَاحِبَهُ مُغْضَبًا قَدِ احْمَرَّ وَجْهُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ كَلِمَةً لَوْ قَالَهَا لَذَهَبَ عَنْهُ مَا يَجِدُ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ» فَقَالُوا لِلرَّجُلِ أَلَا تَسْمَعُ مَا يَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ بِمَجْنُونٍ

Translation

✧ Two men insulted each other in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ while we were sitting with him. One of them was insulting his companion in anger, and his face had turned red. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I know a word which, if he said it, what he feels would leave him: I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan.” They said to the man, “Do you not hear what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is saying?” He said, “I am not insane.”
