أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ

خَطَبَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ بِالْجَابِيَةِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَامَ فِي مِثْلِ مَقَامِي هَذَا فَقَالَ «أَحْسِنُوا إِلَى أَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى يَحْلِفَ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى الْيَمِينِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَحْلَفَ عَلَيْهَا وَيَشْهَدَ عَلَى الشَّهَادَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَشْهَدَ عَلَيْهَا فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنَالَ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ أَلَا لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ فَإِنَّ ثَالِثَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ أَلَا وَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ تَسُوؤُهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ وَتَسُرُّهُ حَسَنَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ»

✧ ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb addressed us at al-Jābiyah and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in a place like this of mine and said, 'Be good to my Companions, then those who follow them, then lying will spread until a man swears an oath before being asked to swear it, and bears witness before being asked to bear witness. Whoever of you wants to attain the best of Paradise, let him keep to the community, for Satan is with the one and is farther from the two. Indeed, no man should be alone with a woman, for the third of them is Satan. Indeed, whoever among you is grieved by his evil deed and pleased by his good deed is a believer.'
