أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي سَمِينَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي حُبِّبَ إِلَيَّ الْجَمَالُ فَمَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ يَفُوقَنِي أَحَدٌ فِيهِ بِشِرَاكٍ أَفَمِنَ الْكِبْرِ هُوَ؟ قَالَ «لَا إِنَّمَا الْكِبْرُ مَنْ سَفِهَ الْحَقَّ وَغَمَصَ النَّاسَ»

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I love beauty, and I do not like anyone to surpass me in it even by a shoelace. Is that arrogance?' He said: 'No, arrogance is rejecting the truth and looking down on people.'
