✧ A letter from 'Umar came to us while we were in Azerbaijan with 'Utbah b. Farqad: To proceed: Wear lower garments, cloaks, and sandals. Throw away the soft leather socks and cut the trousers short. You must wear the clothing of your father Isma'il. Beware of luxury and the dress of the non-Arabs. You must expose yourselves to the sun, for it is the bath of the Arabs. Be rough and shabby, shoot at targets, and jump. The Prophet ﷺ forbade us from silk except this much—his two fingers, the middle and the index." He said, "We did not know that he meant anything except the stripes."

  • Bazzār

machine translationThis is what ʿUmar b. ʿĀmir said, from Qatādah, from Abū ʿUthmān, from ʿUthmān. Someone other than ʿUmar has narrated it from Qatādah, from Abū ʿUthmān, from ʿUmar. We do not know anyone who corroborated ʿUmar b. ʿĀmir in this narration from ʿUthmān.

machine translationThis is a mistake. It is only from Qatādah, from Abū ʿUthmān, from ʿUmar.
