✧ When Hāniʾ came as a delegate to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his people, he heard them calling Hāniʾ by the kunya Abū al-Ḥakam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him and said, "Allah is al-Ḥakam (the Judge), and to Him belongs judgment. So why are you called Abū al-Ḥakam?" He said, "When my people differ over something, they accept me as a judge (ḥakam), and I judge between them." He said, "That is indeed good. What children do you have?" He said, "Shurayḥ, ʿAbd Allāh, and Muslim." He said, "Which of them is the eldest?" He said, "Shurayḥ." He said, "Then you are Abū Shurayḥ." Then he supplicated for him and his children. When the people wanted to return to their lands, he gave each man of them land wherever he wished in his country. Abū Shurayḥ said, "O Messenger of Allah..."
