✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to the House, the people of Makkah made a treaty with him that he could enter it and stay for three days, and that he would not enter it except with the sheathed sword and its scabbard, and that no one who entered with him should leave with him, and that he would not prevent anyone who was with him from staying in it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to 'Ali, 'Write the condition between us: This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, has agreed upon.' The polytheists said, 'If we knew that you were the Messenger of Allah, we would have pledged allegiance to you, but write Muhammad b. 'Abdullah.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Erase it and write Muhammad b. 'Abdullah.' 'Ali said, 'I will not erase it.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Erase it and write Muhammad b. 'Abdullah.' 'Ali said, 'I will not erase it.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Show me its place so that I may erase it,' and he erased it and wrote Muhammad b. 'Abdullah. He stayed there for three days. When it was the end of the third day, they said to 'Ali, 'The condition of your companion has elapsed, so order him to leave.' He informed him of that, and he said, 'Yes.'
