✧ On the Day of Badr, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at the polytheists—they were a thousand, while his companions were three hundred and some odd men. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ faced the qiblah, then stretched out his hands and began to call upon his Lord: 'O Allah, fulfill for me what You promised me. O Allah, give me what You promised me. O Allah, if this band of the people of Islam perishes, You will not be worshipped on earth.' He kept calling upon his Lord, mighty and exalted, with his hands extended, facing the qiblah, until his cloak fell from his shoulder ﷺ. Abu Bakr, ؓ, came to him, took his cloak, and placed it back on his shoulder. Then he embraced him from behind and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, enough of your supplication to your Lord, for He will surely fulfill what He promised you.' Then Allah revealed: 'When you sought help of your Lord and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."' So Allah reinforced him with angels.
