✧ Of jealousy there is some that Allah hates and some that Allah loves; and of pride there is some that Allah loves and some that Allah hates. The jealousy that Allah loves is jealousy in religion; the jealousy that Allah hates is jealousy in other than His religion. The pride that Allah loves is a man's pride in himself at the time of fighting and at the time of charity; and the pride that Allah hates is pride in falsehood.

machine translationYaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr narrates it, and there is disagreement about it. Ibn Abī ʿAdī and Ibn ʿUlayyah narrated from Ḥajjāj al-Ṣawwāf, from Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr, from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from Ibn Jābir b. ʿAtīk, from his father. Likewise said Abū al-Mughīrah and al-Firyābī from al-Awzāʿī, from Yaḥyā; and likewise said Abān al-ʿAṭṭār from Yaḥyā. Muḥammad b. Bashīr narrated it from Ḥajjāj al-Ṣawwāf, from Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr, from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from Ibn ʿAtīk, from his father, and he did not say "Ibn Jābir". Likewise said Ḥarb b. Shaddād from Yaḥyā; likewise said Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā al-Dhuhlī from al-Firyābī, from al-Awzāʿī; and likewise said Ibn al-Mubārak from al-Awzāʿī as well, except that Ibn al-Mubārak transmitted it as a mursal report and did not say in it "from his father". The saying of those who said "Ibn Jābir b. ʿAtīk" is closer to the correct view.
