✧ The Virtue of Testimony

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانَ الطَّائِيُّ أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ يُكَفِّرُ اللَّهُ عَنِّي خَطَايَايَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ» فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ نَادَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَوْ أَمَرَ بِهِ فَنُودِيَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «كَيْفَ قُلْتَ؟ » فَأَعَادَ قَوْلَهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «نَعَمْ إِلَّا الدِّينَ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ لِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ»

✧ A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me, if I am killed in the cause of Allah, patient and seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, will Allah expiate my sins?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Yes." When he turned away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him, or ordered someone to call him, and said: "What did you say?" He repeated his words, so the Prophet ﷺ said: "Yes, except for debt. Thus Gabriel ﷺ said to me."
