Sahih Ibn Hibban 4510

Translation

✧ I was in the delegation of Banu al-Muntafiq. While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the shepherd brought his sheep to the fold, and there was a ewe lamb bleating. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'What did it give birth to?' The shepherd said, 'A lamb.' He said, 'Slaughter a sheep in its place.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not think—and he did not say 'do not think' with nasb—that we slaughtered it for your sake. We have a hundred sheep, and when the shepherd has a lamb, we slaughter a sheep in its place.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have a wife, and there is something in her tongue, meaning obscenity.' He said, 'Divorce her then.' I said, 'She has companionship, and I have a child from her.' He said, 'Command her, admonish her, perhaps she will understand, and do not beat your wife as you beat your camel.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah...'
