✧ The companions of Muhammad ﷺ, when one of them was fasting and the time of breaking the fast came, if he slept before breaking his fast, he would not eat that night or day until evening. Qays b. Sirmah was fasting, and when the time of breaking the fast came, he went to his wife and said, "Do you have any food?" She said, "No, but I will seek some." So she sought some for him while he had been working that day, and sleep overcame him. His wife came and said, "Disappointment for you!" Then he woke in the morning. When midday came, he fainted. He mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and this verse was revealed: "It has been made lawful for you, on the night of the fast, to go to your wives." They rejoiced greatly, and He said: "And eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct to you from the black thread of dawn."
