✧ I incurred a debt of reconciliation, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to ask him for help with it. He ﷺ said: "Stay, O Qabisa, until the zakah comes to us, and then we will order it for you." Then he said: "O Qabisa, asking is not lawful except for one of three: a man who has incurred a debt of reconciliation, so asking is lawful for him until he obtains it, then he should refrain; or a man afflicted by a calamity that destroyed his wealth, so asking is lawful for him until he obtains a means of livelihood or a sufficiency of livelihood; or a man stricken by poverty such that three men of sound judgment from his people say: 'Poverty has indeed befallen so-and-so,' so asking is lawful for him until he obtains a means of livelihood or a sufficiency of livelihood. Whatever other asking is unlawful gain, and its owner consumes it as unlawful gain."
