✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man came to him with something like an egg of gold that he had obtained from one of the expeditions. He said, “O Messenger of Allah, take this from me as charity, for by Allah, I have no wealth other than it this morning.” The Prophet ﷺ turned away from him. He came to him from his other side and said the same, and the Prophet ﷺ turned away from him. Then he came to him from in front of him, and he took it from him and threw it at him with a throw that, had it hit him, would have wounded or hurt him. Then he said, “One of you brings all that he owns and gives it in charity, then sits and begs from people. Charity is only from surplus wealth. Take your wealth from us; we have no need of it.”
