✧ The Prophet ﷺ sent me over the ṣadaqah of Baliyy and ʿUdhrah. I passed by a man from Baliyy who had thirty camels and said to him, “You owe for these camels of yours a bint makhāḍ.” He said, “That one has no riding strength and no milk, and I dislike lending Allah the worst of my wealth. Choose it.” Ubayy said to him, “I was not going to take more than what you owe, and this is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so bring it to him.” He brought it to him and said something similar to what he had said to Ubayy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “This is what you owe, and if you bring more than it, we shall accept it from you.” He said, “O Messenger of Allah, here is a fine fat she-camel. Who will receive it?” He ﷺ ordered someone to receive it and supplicated for blessing in his wealth. ʿUmārah said, “Then time struck a blow, and Marwān put me in charge of the ṣadaqah of Baliyy and ʿUdhrah in the time of Muʿāwiyah. I passed by this man and assessed his wealth as thirty ḥiqqahs, including their stallion, on one thousand five hundred camels.” Ibn Isḥāq said, “I said to ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Bakr, ‘What is their stallion?’ He said, ‘In the Sunnah, when a man’s ṣadaqah reaches thirty ḥiqqahs, their stallion is taken with them.’”
