✧ A Chapter on the condition of the deceased in their grave

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعُ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ قَالَ

حَضَرْتُ جَنَازَةَ أَبَانَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ فَجَاءَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَجَلَسَ وَجَاءَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ أَلَا تَنْهَى هَؤُلَاءِ عَنِ الْبُكَاءِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ»

✧ I attended the funeral of Abān b. ʿUthmān. Ibn ʿUmar came and sat down, and Ibn ʿAbbās came and sat down. Ibn ʿUmar said, "Will you not prohibit these people from weeping? For I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Indeed, the dead person is punished by the weeping of his family over him.'"
