أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ الْقَطَّانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ

«لِابْنِ آدَمَ ثَلَاثَةٌ أَخِلَّاءُ أَمَّا خَلِيلٌ فَيَقُولُ مَا أَنْفَقَتْ فَلَكَ وَمَا أَمْسَكَتْ فَلَيْسَ لَكَ فَهَذَا مَالُهُ وَأَمَّا خَلِيلٌ فَيَقُولُ أَنَا مَعَكَ فَإِذَا أَتَيْتَ بَابَ الْمَلِكِ تَرَكْتُكَ وَرَجَعْتُ فَذَلِكَ أَهْلُهُ وَحَشَمُهُ وَأَمَّا خَلِيلٌ فَيَقُولُ أَنَا مَعَكَ حَيْثُ دَخَلْتَ وَحَيْثُ خَرَجْتَ فَهَذَا عَمَلُهُ فَيَقُولُ إِنْ كُنْتَ لَأَهْوَنَ الثَّلَاثَةِ عَلَيَّ»

✧ The son of Adam has three companions. One companion says: 'What you spent is yours, and what you kept is not yours' – that is his wealth. Another companion says: 'I am with you; but when you reach the king's door, I will leave you and return' – that is his family and relatives. The third companion says: 'I am with you wherever you enter and wherever you leave' – that is his deeds. He will say: 'You were the least of the three in my eyes.'
