✧ I attended the funeral of 'Abd al-Rahman b. Samurah, and Ziyad came out walking in front of his bier, with men facing the bier and being trampled on their heels, saying: 'Slowly, slowly, may Allah bless you,' until when we were in part of the mirbad, Abu Bakrah caught up with us on a mule. When he saw those people and what they were doing, he charged his mule at them and aimed his whip at them and said: «Make way, for by the One in Whose hand is my soul, I saw us with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we were almost running with it at a fast pace.» He said: Then the people came and hastened their walking, and Ziyad hastened his walking.
