أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ حِسَابٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

مُرَّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ ﷺ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ مُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَجَبَتْ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قُلْتَ لِهَذَا وَجَبَتْ وَقُلْتَ لِهَذَا وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ شَهَادَةُ الْقَوْمِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الأَرْضِ

Translation

✧ A funeral procession passed by the Prophet ﷺ, and the deceased was praised with good, so he ﷺ said, 'It has become incumbent.' Then another funeral procession passed by him, and the deceased was spoken of with evil, so the Prophet ﷺ said, 'It has become incumbent.' It was said, 'O Messenger of God, you said for this one, "It has become incumbent," and you said for this one, "It has become incumbent."' He said, 'The testimony of the people, and the believers are the witnesses of God on earth.'
